Thatcher Adam Nash is struggling to find support as a sole trader taking on an older apprentice, so much so that he wrote to the Telegraph, he says:
“I have recently taken on an apprentice and I am seeking funding to help him. He is older than 24, so the AGE grant doesn’t apply – yet he’s married with 2 children, so he needs more support not less. There doesn’t seem to be any special help or recognition for sole traders who invest a lot of their own time in training apprentices – who will eventually set up on their own and become competitors – I can’t afford to pay very much, and would like to help him buy tools and make a contribution to travel expenses.“
I’d like to help Adam and other sole traders in a similar position – does anyone know of any sources of funding or initiatives that are aimed at encouraging sole traders to take on apprentices?
